Periodontics
Assessment and treatment of teeth affected by periodontal (gum) disease, including gingivitis and periodontitis. Periodontal disease is a common cause of oral pain, tooth loss, and chronic inflammation in companion animals and often requires advanced evaluation beyond routine oral examination.
Periodontal assessment is performed under general anesthesia and includes comprehensive probing, evaluation of gingival attachment, and full-mouth dental radiography to assess subgingival pathology and alveolar bone support.
Treatment options are tailored to the severity of disease and the individual patient. These include routine periodontal therapy such as subgingival scaling and root planing, as well as more advanced periodontal surgical procedures in selected cases. Surgical interventions may include periodontal flap surgery and guided tissue regeneration, aimed at controlling disease progression, preserving viable teeth where possible, and supporting long-term oral health.
Clear communication with referring veterinarians is maintained throughout the diagnostic and treatment process, with detailed findings and recommendations provided to support ongoing care and monitoring.
